About John Preston Smith

John’s work experience is in public relations, journalism and sales.

As a SP/5, John handled U. S. Army press relations for the funerals of President Kennedy, General Douglas MacArthur former President Herbert Hoover and the inaugural of President Lyndon Johnson. After graduation from Marshall University, he worked in press relations for Kent State University where he witnessed the killing of four students by the Ohio National Guard in 1970. Over the past 52 years he has trained more than 14,000 dogs. He draws from this array of experiences to fashion his stories. 

 

 

 

In 1970 I witnessed the shooting of students on the campus of Kent State University, in Kent, Ohio.  It was one of those life-changing events…something I have rarely talked about.  On May 4th of this year (2015) a local news anchor asked to briefly talk with me about what had happened.  Interestingly, since then, many have asked to see what was broadcast.
